ratatat and i got to talking about how the sound of the record has evolved over the last five years, from the first albums days disappear and projects. what do you feel like the difference is between this album and days disappear matt: it was kind of an organic thing with that. the first album, it was more jammy, more loose. this one just kind of felt like there was some glue of ideas, but i could kind of let go a little bit. i could let go of a few inhibitions when it came to playing certain things. i like that the first one had certain things that i didnt want to tackle. the one for this one, you kind of have to let go of a lot of stuff. you have to let go of a lot of inhibitions, a lot of self-consciousness. and that makes it a little more exciting, but its also a lot more dangerous, you just have to trust yourself more, and thats something i started doing a little more after projects, but this record is kind of like a step up in that regard.
evan: yeah, i think my involvement was different as well. i mean, one of the things that is really exciting about being a performer is that you have to be vulnerable, because you are going to be on stage alone. you dont have anybody in the room watching your back. so, you know, its nice to be able to trust yourself and know that you have people there to help you. but i also think, there is also a vulnerability when you are collaborating that allows you to make this album. you know, when you are at home, you have all these friends that you can go to to help you listen to a song. but when you are in the studio, or when i am in the studio, i have to do it all on my own. its good to have somebody helping you with those moments, but theres also something really great about dealing with it yourself. its something that we enjoy. its very exciting to go out and do it. and we always have good results. so, its definitely a risk, but a risk that you go out with a bit of trepidation, but you know that when you get on the road, youll have a great time and people will love it. 3d9ccd7d82
